Central cabinet gives nod to Cybersecurity cooperation pact between India and Japan
Central Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of cybersecurity between India and Japan.

According to a Cabinet release, MoC will enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, which include inter-alia, capacity building in area of cyber; protection of critical infrastructure; cooperation in emerging techlogies; sharing information on cybersecurity threats/incidents and malicious cyber activities, as well as best practices to counter m; developing joint mechanisms for practical cooperation to mitigate cyber threats to security of Information Communication Techlogy (ICT) infrastructure, etc.
two countries have committed mselves to an open, interoperable, free, fair, secure, and reliable cyber environment and to promote Internet as an engine of invation, ecomic growth, and tre and commerce that would be consistent with ir respective domestic laws and international obligations, and with ir wide-ranging strategic partnership.

This comes on same day External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held-wide-ranging talks with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo, covering an entire gamut of bilateral ties including expansion of India-Japan collaboration in third countries. In talks held under framework of strategic dialogue, two foreign ministers also deliberated on long-pending reform of United Nations and ways to deepen cooperation in Indo-Pacific region.
Among or objectives, two countries through MoC on cybersecurity will affirm cooperation in international arena including in UN by discussing and sharing strategies and best practices to promote integrity of supply chain of ICT products, strengning security of digital infrastructure through Government-to-Government and Business-to-Business cooperation and continuing dialogue and engment in Internet governance fora.

Cooperation in cybersecurity between New Delhi and Tokyo also draws significance since both countries have been on receiving end of cyberattacks from hostile neighbours like China, rth Korea and Pakistan. Cyber and cyber warfare are two new fronts that have opened up in last two deces where countries are trying to equip mselves with sophisticated defensive strategies.

After 13th Japan-India Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, Jaishankar took to Twitter to inform that both leers discussed cooperation in several fields, including manufacturing, infrastructure, and health. minister said that y explored opportunities of furr expansion of collaboration with a special focus on development and projects. y also reviewed current global situation and developments pertaining to UN reform, he ded.

On October 6, Jaishankar participated in second India-Australia-Japan-USA Ministerial Meeting — commonly kwn as Qu — as leers followed up on ir discussions on post-COVID international order. y called for a coordinated response to challenges including financial problems emanating from pandemic, said ministry of external affairs in a statement.
