The world appeared to light up in elation as India fulfilled its lunar pursuit on Wednesday, with the remarkable Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander successfully landing on the Moon and creating history. Commemorating the glorious moment, Indians across the globe chanted slogans and applauded the feat in unison.
In the American capital of Washington DC, members of the Indian diaspora assembled at the Embassy of India to watch the lander's journey to the Moon. In the UAE's Dubai, the Indian consulate shared glimpses of officials witnessing the historic moment on a large screen.
"And touchdown! Witness moments that created history. #Chandrayaan3 is on the moon The #TirangaOnTheMoon is the first to be on the South side of the #Moon," the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi exclaimed on X on Wednesday. The United Kingdom also celebrated the feat and congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the same.
Space agencies from around the world laud India's Chandrayaan-3 success
"History made! Congratulations to @isro #Chandrayaan3," the UK Space Agency wrote shortly after the historic landing. The Indian Embassy in France also lauded India's space mission. "A historic day for the Indian space sector. Congratulations to @isro for the remarkable success of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission," it wrote in French.
"Congratulations to India! Indian Space Agency's Chandrayaan-3 @isro has successfully soft-landed on the moon! France has been an important partner in India's space travel," it added. Moreover, the European Space Agency's (ESA) Director-General Josef Aschbacher also heaped praises on India for the mission.
"Incredible! Congratulations to @isro, #Chandrayaan_3, and to all the people of India!! What a way to demonstrate new technologies AND achieve India’s first soft landing on another celestial body. Well done, I am thoroughly impressed. And kudos once again to @esaoperations for your precious support through this process. We, too, are learning great lessons and providing crucial expertise. A strong international partner is a powerful partner," he said.
The plaudits from across the globe come after India joined the list of nations that have touched down on the Moon's South Pole. On the evening of Wednesday, the Vikram Lander scripted history as it landed on the lunar surface. Its iconic trip to the Moon was witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and millions of hopeful Indians.
