Afghanistan's chief peace envoy Abdullah Abdullah met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the second day of his trip to Iran. Abdullah arrived in Tehran on Sunday for talks with senior Iranian officials to discuss his country's ongoing peace process. In a tweet posted on Sunday following Abdullah's meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman wrote "a prosperous, independent, developed, peaceful and stable Afghanistan is what Iran has always wanted. We will make every effort to contribute to genuine intra-Afghan talks,"

Abdullah's three-day trip followed a visit to India and Pakistan for talks on Afghanistan's peace process. As chief of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah oversees the government side in negotiations with Taliban representatives.
