China called itself a “defender of international order” after US Defense Secretary Esper said that the CCP wants to rewrite the rules of international order.

China called itself a “defender of international order” after US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that Chinese Communist Party (CCP) wants to rewrite rules of international order. As Esper approaches start of his second year in office, he raised concern over a rising China under CCP, saying Chinese want to rewrite rules of international order that have served nations of world.

Esper said that China and Russia are top strategic competitors in era of power competition but ackwledged that China is “bigger problem”, given its population and ecomy. He added that China has ambition to displace United States, “certainly from region and preferably on global st”.

Responding to accusations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a regular press briefing that China only wants to rewrite old pattern of "seeking hegemony when growing stronger" into peaceful development and win-win cooperation. He said that “certain” US politicians have been “oppressing” China out of Cold-War mindset and zero-sum game mentality.

“It's one major reason behind unprecedented challenges facing China-US relations,” he added.

'Shifting blame'

Wang said that America should respect and ackwledge fact that CCP is endorsed by all Chinese people, urging US to t try to sow discord between CCP and Chinese people. Foreign Ministry spokesperson also targeted US State Secretary Mike Pompeo for latter’s virus “cover-up” allegations on China.

Wang said that US won’t get out of trouble by shifting blame to China, hoping United States will adopt a “responsible attitude” towards lives and health of people. Referring to a recent state of editor-in-chief of Lancet, a leading medical journal, spokesperson said that “some countries” did thing for weeks even after World Health Organisation and China explained what was happening as early as January.
