China hits back at Tsai Ing-wen, says it will 'never tolerate' Taiwan's separation

China said that it will “never tolerate” Taiwan’s separation from the mainland after Tsai Ing-wen was inaugurated as President of the self-governing island.

China said that it will “never tolerate” Taiwan’s separation from mainland after Tsai Ing-wen was inaugurated as President of self-governing island for a second term. According to China’s state-run news ncy, spokesperson for Taiwan Affairs Office said that Beijing has sufficient ability to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity and won’t tolerate separatist activities.

assertive comment from China came after Tsai Ing-wen said that Taiwan can t accept Beijing’s “one country, two systems” policy which undermines “cross-strait status quo”. During her inaugural dress on May 20, Ing-wen highlighted complex and changing cross-strait circumstances saying government has me greatest effort to maintain peace and stability in Taiwan Strait.

'Willing to eng'

Taiwanese President said that government is willing to eng in dialogue with China but will t accept China’s "one country, two systems". She ded that ministration will continue to handle cross-strait affairs according to Constitution of Taiwan and Act Governing Relations between People of Taiwan Area and Mainland Area. 

“We will t accept Beijing authorities' use of ‘one country, two systems’ to downgre Taiwan and undermine cross-strait status quo. We stand fast by this principle,” she said.

self-governing island republic considers itself as sovereign while China claims province as Beijing’s territory under its one-China policy and has been pushing to implement Hong Kong system in Taiwan. Hong Kong, a former British Colony, returned to Chinese rule in 1997 but on condition of higher automy and Beijing has been offering same to Taiwan but all major Taiwanese party have rejected it.

“Cross-strait relations have reached a historical turning point. Both sides have a duty to find a way to coexist over long term and prevent intensification of antagonism and differences,” said Taiwanese President.
