China imposes lockdown in city near Myanmar border after report of fresh COVID-19 cases
China has locked down a city on the border with Myanmar after an unknown source of possible coronavirus infection sparked concerns over illegal crossings.

China has locked down a city on border with Myanmar after an unkwn source of possible coronavirus infection sparked concerns over illegal crossings. According to Global Times, new cases were found in city of Ruili in western Yunnan province, which is an important land border crossing point with neighbouring Myanmar. In a statement, Ruili anti-epidemic authority anunced that residents are required to stay in ir homes during lockdown period.
As per reports, Chinese city has t seen domestic cases for months, however, with recent infections emerging, it is speculated that illegal border crossings may be reason. It was ted that land ports linking Myanmar and China have been closed to passengers since early days of epidemic. However, w border control authorities in Yunnan have been on high alert, implementing stricter measures.

Border areas enter ‘war-time’ status
state-run tabloid reported that authorities in Ruili and several or border areas h entered ‘war-time’ status in a bid to enhance anti-epidemic measures and border manment. infections are believed to be brought in from Myanmar and that is why Chinese authorities would ‘crackdown on illegal immigrants’.

officials reportedly said that eight border prefectures and 25 border counties in province should enter wartime status immediately, enhancing anti-epidemic measures and border manment to prevent imported cases. Furr, officials said that y would launch citywide coronavirus testing to rescue risk of an outbreak. Ruili government said that officials will spare effort in strengning border controls, with 24-hour closed-cycle manment that will be applied to all counties and communities near border in a bid to ensure re are illegal crossings from neighbourhood countries.

As per reports, two Myanmar nationals were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 on September 15. health authorities informed that both patients entered Chinese city from neighbouring country. One of m was a 32-year-old woman who was initially asymptomatic, and or was a 16-year-old girl.
