China, Russia and US trade barbs at UN meeting over COVID-19 pandemic response

United States, China, and Russia traded barbs on Thursday, September 24 during the UN Security Council meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

United States, China, and Russia tred barbs on Thursday, September 24 during UN Security Council meeting on sidelines of General Assembly over several issues regarding COVID-19 pandemic. As per reports, clash between three nations sprouted from allegations of mishandling COVID-19 pandemic and furr politicisation of virus. UN General Assembly is meeting virtually this year due to pandemic.

US, China and Russia clash at UN 

As per reports, three veto-wielding council members took part in sharp exchanges on Thursday and deep divisions among m seemed to have only deepened after emergence of vel coronavirus. 

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, “In such a challenging moment, major countries are even more duty-bound to put future of humankind first, discard Cold War mentality and ideological bias and come toger in spirit of partnership to tide over difficulties”.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his dress stated that common misfortunes caused by COVID-19 pandemic h failed to bring three countries toger and h inste created deeper divisions among m. Lavrov ded, “We see attempts on part of individual countries to use current situation in order to move forward ir narrow interests of moment in order to settle score with undesirable governments or geopolitical competitors”.

Chinese and Russian representatives' comments were seemingly too much for US ambassor Kelly Craft who, in her remarks, said that she was ‘disgusted’ by contents of discussions. Craft ded that “President Trump has me it very clear: We will do whatever is right, even if it’s unpopular, because, let me tell you what, this is t a popularity contest”.

As per reports, US representative alleged that Chinese Communist Party was t equally committed to public health, transparency, and ir international obligations as it h hidden origin of virus, minimised dangers posed by virus, and also suppressed scientific cooperation reby allowing a local epidemic to become a global pandemic.

So far, coronavirus has infected more than 32 million people across globe and current worldwide death toll as per John Hopkins coronavirus resource centre has crossed over 987,000.
