China urges India and Nepal to resolve Kalapani dispute with bilateral cooperation

China has said that the issue of Kalapani is a bilateral matter between Nepal and India and urged the two countries to corporate on the same.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said, " issue of Kalapani is between Nepal and India. We hope two countries will resolve ir differences properly through friendly consultations and refrain from taking any unilateral action that may complicate situation."

India and Nepal are currently in a standoff after Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli told parliament that "Kalapani, Limpiyhura, and Lipulekh belong to Nepal. We will get m back.” comments were me a day after Nepal released a map which showed that mentioned territories were a part of its region.

On Tuesday, Nepali informed parliament that he h spoken to Chinese authorities regarding same. "Our government representatives have spoken with Chinese authorities. Chinese authorities have said that  India-China agreement was about expanding an old tre route for pilgrim purposes, and it won’t affect position of tri-juncture and issue of borders,” said KP Sharma Oli.

Regarding construction of ro, India's Ministry of External Affairs h earlier said, "We have seen press release dated May 9, 2020 issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal pertaining to inauguration of a ro in India. ro follows pre-existing route used by pilgrims of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Under present project, same ro has been me pliable for ease and convenience of pilgrims, locals, and trers.”

Earlier, Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane said that Nepal was acting at "behest of someone else". When asked about dispute, he said, "I do t see any contriction at all. Nepal ambassor has said area east of river (Kalapani) is irs. And ro is west of it. So I don’t kw what y are agitating about. re are issues where tri-junction should be. y [Nepal] may have raised issue at behest of someone else."
