An endangered pygmy Hippopotamus, who was born at Colchester Zoo, the UK on May 9, took its first steps recently. The female calf and mother are doing well.

An endangered pygmy Hippopotamus, who was born at Colchester Zoo, UK on May 9, took its first steps recently. According to reports, female calf was born to mor Venus and far Freddie. Speaking about newborn hippo, zoo officials have said that it will stay with mor for first few years ding that people will be updated after it is named.

Pygmy Hippopotamus are endangered species and re are only 2000 of m living in wild, international media reported citing officials. Often living apart and coming toger during breeding season, experts suggest that se animals like solitude. Meanwhile, Colchester Zoo has taken to social media to post an orable picture of calf which has w received over 336 likes and various comments. Along with photograph, y have also revealed that both mor and child, were “doing well” and “happily moving around” in ir enclosure.

A few days ago, San Diego Zoo reportedly anunced first successful birth of a pygmy hippopotamus in more than three deces. Mabel, a 4-year-old pygmy hippo at zoo, gave birth to a 12-pound male calf on April 9. zoo anunced birth on Friday in recognition of Endangered Species Day and because calf has been deemed healthy by animal experts at zoo.

calf, which has t been named, is meeting and surpassing milestones, including ability to go underwater, zoo said. re are fewer than 2,500 pygmy hippos living in rivers and streams in forest of West Africa, zoo said, and ir species are threatened by logging, farming and human settlement in ir habitat.
