Coronavirus outbreak: Czech Republic confirms five cases of epidemic

One of the patients of the novel coronavirus infection is a teacher at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague who attended a conference in Italy.

Czech Republic has reportedly confirmed five new cases of COVID-19 virus as of March 3, all cases are linked with travel to Italy, confirmed Health Minister of Czech Republic. Czech state brocaster Rio Prague International anunced on March 3 that three patients are Czech nationals who studied in rrn Italy. third patient is an American citizen who studied in Milan and entered Czech, confirmed reports.

One of patients infected is a teacher at Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague who attended a conference in Italy. He contracted strain of COVID-19 during trip. Symptoms surfaced well after he returned to Czech, and a few days later, he tested positive to coronavirus. school cancelled classes and entire staff along with students were isolated. Health authorities were in process of mapping patient’s contacts to ascertain individuals that may have been exposed as per international media report.

Czech planning to declare emergency

According to reports, interior ministry of Czech is planning to declare a state of emergency within country as a measure to control drastic spre of disease. It is also looking to impose travel restrictions against Italian citizens as well as suspend all flights with South Korea and Italy. Czech has a pending consultation with EU regarding travel ban.

Prime Minister of Czech Republic Andrej Babis told media that his country will halt all travel to nations where impact of coronavirus is major, and cases are escalating. People are urged to avoid travelling to Italy. Bus line operator RegioJet also plans to suspend services on Prague-Venice-Rome and Prague-Milan international routes effective end of week, he ded. Industry Minister Karel Havlicek mentioned in reports that Czech was considering to ground planes flying from Italian cities of Milan, Venice, and Bologna for at least two weeks initially, decision will be revised basis furr analysis of situation.
