Pet cat of Coronavirus patient tests positive; currently asymptomatic: Hong Kong Govt

COVID-19 patient's cat test positive 

As per People's Daily, China, health officials collected samples from cat's mouth and se, following which reports have indicated that cat h been tested positive for COVID-19. However, Hong Kong government officials have also stated that cat is t showing any signs of disease.

Even so, this is t first case where an animal has contracted Coronavirus from an infected-owner. Earlier on March 27, media houses in Belgium reported ar case where a cat h contracted virus from infected owner. Apparently, cat started showing symptoms of COVID-19 a week after owner tested positive.

Dogs test positive 

Similarly, two dogs in Hong Kong tested positive after a screening campaign was conducted on 17 dogs and eight cats belonging to affected people. Even so, dogs were t showing any symptoms. In early March, first dog who was detected of Coronavirus was put under quarantine after being found as "weakly positive."

It is important to te here that American Centre for Disease Control (CDC) writes following in its p on topic:

  • "CDC has t received any reports of pets or or animals becoming sick with COVID-19. Furr studies are needed to understand if and how different animals could be affected by COVID-19"
