Researchers in China have discovered that 42.8 per cent of medical staff treating COVID-19-infected patients experienced serious skin injuries related to use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, goggles, face shields, and protective gowns. study was published in science journal vances in Wound Care and revealed se skin injuries pose a high risk of infection.
“We wanted to investigate prevalence, characteristics, and preventive status of skin injuries caused by personal protective equipment (PPE) in medical staff,” authors of study wrote.

study was based on a cross-sectional survey that was conducted online between February 8 and 12. aim of survey was to understand skin injuries among medical staff fighting health crisis. researchers found overall prevalence of skin injuries was 42.8 per cent. y also devised three s of PPE-related skin injuries, device-related pressure injuries, moist associated skin dam, and skin tear.

According to study, heavy sweating, greater wearing time were amongst many reasons that cause se injuries. y ded being a male was also a cause as was using gre 3 inste of gre 2 PPE. Talking about limitations of study, researchers wrote that because it was conducted during an emergency, y were t able to observe negative affect on medical staff. Also, it was impossible for m to compare results of “prevention and treatment” measures.
