Hundreds marched on Saturday in the Peruvian capital of Lima, protesting against the leading candidate in the coming June 6 elections, leftist Pedro Castillo from the Free Peru Party.

Many held signs portraying Castillo and his party peers as "Communists" with authoritarian traits.

Patricia Aliaga, who was among the demonstrators, said she felt "threatened by the radical left."

Pedro Castillo, a former teacher, came in as the leading candidate after the first round of the elections with 19 percent of the vote.

His rival Keiko Fujimori, from the Popular Force Party obtained 13 percent in the ballot.

Fujimori is a longtime politician and daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori.

The presidential election comes months after the country's political chaos reached a new level in November, when three men were president in a single week after one was impeached by Congress over corruption allegations and protests forced his successor to resign in favor of the third.
