The US Democratic Debate held at Ohio’s Otterbein College went on for three hours on Wednesday, with candidate Elizabeth Warren arguing to split large tech giants. However, she did not side with rival Kamala Harris to suspend the Twitter account of US President Donald Trump. During the Democratic Debate, Elizabeth Warren shared the stage with Joe Biden and twelve other Democrats. 

Warren argues to split the tech giants 

Elizabeth Warren who is a US senator is competing neck-to-neck with former Vice President Joe Biden according to the opinion polls. During the debate, Warren proposed to split major tech companies like Amazon Inc., Facebook Inc., and Alphabet Inc. highlighting the antitrust concerns. Warren argued that the tech giants exercise their monopoly over the US economy. The discussion about big tech giants is the most wide-ranging which argues the credibility and accountability of these big companies towards small businesses that fail to flourish in the US economy.

Warren supported the argument with facts

During the debate, Warren argued, “I’m not willing to give up and let a handful of monopolists dominate our economy and our democracy. It’s time to fight back”. She supported her arguments with facts saying that only 8 to 9 percent of sales are achieved by local businesses and rest 49 percent of sales are dominated by one tech giant, targeting Amazon. She discussed that these tech giants gather information from small businesses and then use that information to compete with them in the market. She argued that this practice needs to stop. She emphasized on enforcing the antitrust laws.

Warren focused on winning 2020 elections

However, she refused to support Kamala Harris, also a US Senator to call for a suspension of Donald Trump’s Twitter account. Kamala Harris previously argued that Trump uses his Twitter handle to intimidate his rivals. Warren responded that she is focused on winning the November 2020 elections and pushing Donald Trump out of the White House. “I don’t just want to push Donald Trump off Twitter. I want to push him out of the White House. That’s our job,” Warren responded.
