A Catahoula and Blue Heeler mix dog has been learning how to talk from her owner and has already learned 29 different words. Stella, the 18-month-old has been reportedly training with her owner, Christina Hunger and learning how to talk with the help of a soundboard. The California resident started using the technology when the dog was just eight weeks old and has been keeping track of her pet's progress on Instagram and her blog, 'Hunger for Words'.
Hunger in an Instagram post said, “Stella adapts her message when she isn’t feeling understood, just like we all do! If someone doesn’t understand us or we don’t get the response we were expecting, we change the words we’re using to explain ourselves better.”
Christina Hunger, the 26-year-old is a speech pathologist and started setting up a button board when Stella was eight-weeks-old. The buttons on the soundboard emit a human voice and allow Stella to step on the word she wants to say to her owner. In an interview with an international media outlet, Hunger says that she is constantly amazed and shocked as everyday Stella comes up with something different and 'cooler' than what she said a day before. Hunger added that the dog uses words like 'walk', 'come' and 'happy' to tell her owner what she wants and she can even notice an emotional reaction from her pet as Stella gets excited when she's able to express a new word. Hunger further also said that Stella's favourite words are 'beach' and 'walk'.
