A parrot has been detained by the local police in Brazil for alerting drug dealers about the police's arrival, said report.

As per the report, the parrot has been taken into custody by the police after it tipped off the drug dealers by shouting, "Mum, the police."

The report says that the bird (which was in all possibility kept in captivity by the drug dealer) was now been "imprisoned" by the police.

The drug dealers involved were a local couple who ran a den and escaped before the police arrived to catch them.

An officer in the police force which has detained the unnamed bird said that he must have been trained well for the job.

The local reports have claimed that the "papagaio do tráfico" or "drug-trafficking" bird "is not cooperating" in the investigation. A report also said that the cops tried to "loosen up" the bird but they have been unable to break it.

The report says that a Brazilian journalist who came face to face with the bird described it has “super obedient” and that it had not made a peep after being "arrested".

The local vet who tested the bird also confirmed that the bird has been mum on the matter.

As per reports, the bird is the latest to join the list of animals implicated in Brazil's drug trade.

Drug trafficking has been a growing concern in several countries.

In February, the infamous Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera, the Mexican drug kingpin who minted millions as the head of the Sinaloa cartel for several years, was found guilty on all 10 criminal counts against him by a US federal court on Tuesday (local time).

During the trial that went on for 11 weeks, Guzman was convicted on numerous counts including money laundering, engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise, distribution of heroin and cocaine and other drugs, and illegal arms possession.

Although, the 61-year-old Mexican drug lord has not been sentenced, he faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment. He is slated to be formally sentenced on June 25, CNN reported.
