Dubai airport, world's busiest, feels virus impact

Dubai International Airport, usually bustling with travelers, looked empty and quiet on Wednesday. For years, this was one of the world's busiest airports for international travel.

Dubai International Airport, usually bustling with travelers, looked empty and quiet on Wednesday. For years, this was one of the world's busiest airports for international travel. Its once-full departure board showed only seven flights for Dubai's long-haul carrier Emirates. These are tough times for Dubai, which through Emirates, helped build a travel hub and a major tourist destination. Emirates has been laying off staff, including a large group this week, although it has declined to give numbers. The International Air Transport Association estimated Tuesday that airlines will lose $84.3 billion this year due to travel disruption caused by the pandemic.
