EAM Jaishankar greets Dominica on Independence Day, hopes to 'continue close ties'

Jaishankar said that he is confident that the diplomatic relations between India and Dominica will continue to strengthen as he congratulated Kenneth Darroux.

On vember 3, India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar extended warm and heartfelt greetings to his Dominican counterpart Kenneth Darroux, government of Dominica, and its people on country's Independence Day. In a Twitter post, Jaishankar said that he is confident that diplomatic relations between India and Dominica will continue to strengn. “Congratulate FM Kenneth Darroux and Government and people of Dominica on ir Independence Day,” he wrote, ding, “Confident that our [India and Dominica’s] close ties will continue to strengn furr.”

Dominica gained independence from Great Britain on this day in 1978, as it declared itself as an independent republic within Commonwealth. country marks its independence with events to hour its herit and Creole culture. Dominica hosts some of vibrant functions such as Herit Day, Creole Day, Miss Wob Dwiyet Pant, Ti Mator Competition, Market Day among ors to commemorate its independence. On this day, country’s freedom from rule of Britain earmarked its first election of Prime Minister and locally elected Cabinet with separate constitution, symbols, emblems, an army, and passports. Ambassors were assigned overseas and treaties were signed as Dominica entered various international organizations as a separate country.

Celebrations subdued due to COVID-19

Meanwhile, Dominica Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, wished his citizens 42nd Anniversary of Dominica's Independence. On his official Twitter handle leer of Caribbean island country informed, “This year celebrations are subdued due to impact of COVID-19. However, re is also a much reason to celebrate as toger we embrace new opportunities and approaches to National Development.” Skerrit’s caution comes as country recorded 7 positive cases of vel coronavirus, surging total active cases to 22. Dominican leers restricted celebrations to conference room of State House in wake of COVID-19.
