Ethiopia PM Abiy Ahmed Ali: Know the Nobel Peace Prize winner of 2019

Abiy Ahmed had made history even before signing the peace deal as he became the first Ethiopian leader to meet an Eritrean counterpart in over two decades.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali became 100th recipient of bel Peace Prize on October 11. Abiy Ahmed, born in 1976 in Beshasha, a town in central Ethiopia, served in Ethiopian army from 1991 to 2010. He got involved in armed struggle against socialist state of Mengistu Haile Mariam after death of his oldest bror. Abiy Ahmed also served in United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Kigali, Rwanda.

Started political career in 2010

Abiy Ahmed joined Oromo Democratic Party (ODP), one of four coalition parties of ruling government, to start his political career. He became congress member of EPRDF (Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front), ruling coalition front. In 2010, Abiy Ahmed, as a leer of Oromo Democratic Party (ODP), was elected to lower chamber of Ethiopian Federal Parliamentary Assembly, House of People’s Representatives. He also served as Minister of Science and Techlogy for a brief period.

Me history after visiting Eritrea

After becoming Prime Minister on April 02, 2018, Abiy Ahmed promised major reforms including solution of long-term conflict with Eritrea. Within four months, Ali was able to broker a peace deal and signed Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship with Eritrea on July 08, 2018, in Asmara, Eritrea. Abiy Ahmed h me history even before signing deal as he became first Ethiopian leer to meet an Eritrean counterpart in over two deces.

Hailed for ending conflict with Eritrea

conflict between two African countries lasted almost 20 years which claimed thousands of lives. hostility was up to a point where communication lines between countries were cut-off and leers of two nations h visited eir side since 1998. After deal, two countries resumed tre and diplomatic ties.
