Several People Injured in a Stabbing Attack in German City of Mannheim

New Delhi: Several people were injured in a knife attack in German city of Mannheim on Friday, AP reported. attacker, not identified in report, was also shot and injured by police. incident took place around 11:30 in afternoon in an area known as Marktplatz, a square in downtown Mannheim. Police, thus far, have not revealed extent of injuries suffered by those who were caught up in attack but have specified in a statement that re is no longer any danger to public. 

According to a report by German state news brocaster Deutsche Welle, attack took place during a far-right rally organised by Citizens' Movement Pax Europa, with outspoken anti-Islam activist Michael Stürzenberger also being present at rally event as a speaker. Reports indicate that Stürzenberger was one of individuals who were injured during knife attack. 

A police officer was also, reportedly, injured in incident. Citing coverage by DPA news agency, DW report said that officer in question has been severely injured and is undergoing surgery after attack.
