A 95-year old has been charged by the German prosecutors for accessorizing the murder of over 36,000 Jews at the Nazi concentration camp. Towards the end of the World War II, the convicted man, is known to have served as a guard.

The ex-Nazi identified as Hans H. from Berlin, is being prosecuted for the barbarism committed at the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria.

The Berlin prosecutors specified that as a Nazi guard on duty, he was responsible for thousands of prisoner deaths

During his time as a guard, 36,223 Jews died were counted. These atrocious deaths  were caused by using various methods --gassing shower rooms, fatal injections, shooting and more. Some of them are also known to die by freezing or starvation, the prosecutors said.

The accusations are based on the fact that Hans H. was aware of all these methods of murder and the ghastly living conditions of in-mates. The accused is not charged of specific killing but of facilitating these death, aiding the functioning of the camps.

Over 200,000 people were held at Mauthausen, half of them died before the camps were freed in May 1945 by United States troops.

While the horrors of the Nazi history still breathes in memories, here are some other facts of this dreadful period-

1. Sometimes, prisoners were forced to kill other prisoners. The Jewish young males in good health also had the jobs to lead new prisoners to gas chambers and remove the corpses after.

2. The Nazis turned their soldiers into drug addicts, and distributed Meth to yeild longer working hours. The results were known after testing it on students

3. The Nazis were fond of collecting skeletons of Jewish people from the Holocaust.

4. Rudolph Hess in his memoirs elaborated on the process to trick Jews into entering gas chambers. They were ordered to undress to be washed. While children often cried, they the Nazi 'Special Detachment Team'comforted them by froing them, as they often entered the chambers carrying their toys.

Around 11 million people were killed during the Holocaust out of which 1.1 million were children and 6 million of those victims were Jewish. Other groups targeted by the Nazis were Jehovah’s Witnesses, homosexuals, disabled people, and Roma.
