“One of most important projects I've worked on over past couple of years is establishing an independent Oversight Board that our community can appeal to on some of hardest questions about what content is allowed on our services,” wrote Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and co-founder of Facebook. “We are responsible for enforcing our policies every day and we make millions of content decisions every week. But ultimately I don't believe private companies like ours should be making so many important decisions about speech on our own. That's why I've called for governments to set clearer standards around harmful content. It's also why we're w giving people a way to appeal our content decisions by establishing independent Oversight Board,” he ded.

Prioritisation of cases
For w, independent Oversight board will begin its operations by hearing facebook initiated cases but later on, its users will also be able to refer cases to board demanding review. According to Facebook newsroom, board can request that its decision be applied to or instances or reproductions of same content on Facebook. In such cases, Facebook will do so, to extent technically and operationally feasible. Facebook will prioritize its cases on basis of significance and difficulty. While 'significance' will include factors like severity, scale, and public discourse, difficulty factor will include disputed, uncertain and competing cases.
