Famous Darwin's Arch in Galapagos Islands collapses due to 'natural erosion', see pics

Darwin’s Arch, a famous natural rock formation off coast of Galapagos Islands has collapsed on May 17. Ecuor’s Environment Ministry has blamed natural erosion for collapse. y posted pictures on social media that showed rubble from top of arch h crumbled into ocean with two supporting columns still standing.

Darwin’s Arch is me of natural stone that at one time would have been part of Darwin Island, which is not open to visits by land." ding that site is considered one of best places on planet to dive and see sharks and or species. arch was located less than a mile away from Darwin Island, also named after Charles Darwin, famous scientist who developed his ory on evolution and natural selection after visiting islands in 1835.

He said that from a scientific point of view, it is part of natural process. He furr ded that fall is surely due to exogenous processes such as wearing and erosion that happen on Earth.  tourist boating group Aggressor ventures in a Facebook post said that  collapse happened around 11:20 a.m. local time and a tourist boat witnessed "once in a lifetime event."

"Obviously all people from Galapagos felt nostalgic because it’s something we are familiar with since childhood, and to know that it has changed was a bit of a shock."
