Washington: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Saturday confirmed that a bullet had indeed struck Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's ear after a gunman opened fire at his Pennsylvania rally earlier this week.
"What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject’s rifle," the FBI said in a statement.

This statement from the federal agency marked the most definitive law enforcement account of Trump’s injuries and followed ambiguous comments earlier in the week from Director Christopher Wray cast doubt on whether a bullet had hit Trump.
Wray's doubt on the whole incident drew fury from Trump and his allies and it further stoked conspiracy theories that flourished both sides of the political aisle following the July 13 attack.

On July 13, the 78-year-old candidate said that he felt as if a bullet had ripped through his skin.
Amidst the incident, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee took his social media platform and said, "I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through my skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening."

Earlier this month, details emerged in the probe into the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump with US media claiming that the US Secret Service was warned about shooter Thomas Michael Crooks before the rally. However, the Secret Service ignored the warning and allowed the shooter to go, the reports claimed.
