Flight makes emergency landing after pilot spills coffee on ACP
A cross-Atlantic flight with more than 300 people on board made an emergency landing when pilot accidentally spilled hot coffee on audio control panel

A flight with 326 people on board was diverted to make an emergency landing in country of Ireland when pilot accidentally spilled hot coffee over cockpit control panel over Atlantic Ocean, according to a report on Thursday. incident happened in February. cockpit was apparently filled with pungent smell of electric burning with reported injuries or casualties. As per reports, pilot decided to divert when smoke rising from panel was ticed.

'Coffee' incident
An Airbus A330-243 was flying to Mexico's Cancun from Frankfurt and landed in Ireland's Shann when hot liquid causing a strong electrical burning smell and with smoke ascending from panel was ticed. Ccaptain in nick of time decided to divert, report from Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said. 'coffee' incident occurred when pilot put his coffee cup minus lid on tray table inste of a cup holder. recorded incident which happened in February reported injuries. AAIB did t identify airline in its report but said that it h modified procedures to make sure that lids for cups are provided for all flight destinations and crews are reminded that y need to use m.

AAIB Statement
AAIB in a publicly released document stated following:
"Coffee was spilled onto commander’s audio control panel (ACP). This resulted in failure of his ACP and later, ACP on co-pilot’s side. During failures, ACPs became very hot and produced an electrical burning smell and smoke. commander decided to divert to Shann, Republic of Ireland. failure of two ACPs caused significant communication difficulty for flight crew. operator has taken safety action to reduce chance of spill. ditionally, it said that various ACP failures resulted in communication difficulties. commander was t able to receive or transmit and could only hear transmissions through co-pilot’s speaker. re was interphone between pilots. aircraft diverted to Shann without furr incident. smoke stopped and though re was a residual burning smell, fumes did t result in injuries to anyone on board."
