A foreign diplomats convoy was allegedly hit by a bomb in the Swat Valley, while they were visiting Northwest Pakistan on Sunday, resulting in the death of one police officer and injuring four others. The Pakistan police confirmed the incident stating the injured people were shifted to the hospital for treatment. The deceased police officer was deployed in the security of the foreign diplomats, who were on their visit to Northwest Pakistan.

According to the reports, the Swat Valley district police officer, Zahidullah Khan said that the diplomats were visiting the Swat Valley area on the invitation of the local chamber of commerce. "The squad that was leading the convoy was hit by a roadside bomb," he said.

The other four injured police officials were shifted to the hospital for treatment, the cop said.

Nearly a dozen foreign diplomats were on their trip to Pakistan ’s northwest region, when the bomb blast occurred. All the diplomats are claimed to be safe and were headed back to Islamabad.

A senior police official said that all the ambassadors remained safe in the attack and were shifted to a safe place before their departure to Islamabad. The nationality of the diplomats was not immediately clear. Pakistan ’s foreign ministry, however, didn’t issue any statement regarding the bomb blast incident.

On the other hand, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Pakistani counter-terrorist forces maintain a strong presence in the Swat valley, which has long been a hotbed of Islamist militant insurgency. The militants have stepped up their attacks since late 2022 after breaking a ceasefire with the government.

In 2012, Islamist militants shot and wounded Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai in the valley.
