Former King of Nepal Gyanendra Shah inaugurates campaign demanding 'Hindu Rajya'

According to Nepalese news outlet, Khabarhub, former monarch supported a campaign spearheed by a member of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML), Durga Prasai. owner of B&C Hospital in Jhapa has claimed to reinstate Nepal as a Hindu State. outright support from erstwhile king came after last month, thousands of supporters of former royal, conducted a demonstration, demanding restoration of monarchy in Himalayan nation. This is first time former Monarch, gave support to such a demand in more than a dece. 

According to Khabarhub, king was also joined by former crowned prince, Paras Shah. CPN-UML leer announced that campaign with royal stamp of approval, will start from Mechi in Kakvitta of Jhapa and will reach Mahakali. Parsai has been demanding abolishment of federalism and has been aiming to declare Nepal as “Vedic Hindu state,” Khabarhub reported. event also took place on same day Nepalese Prime Minister,  Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ declared, February 13 as a public holiday to mark 23 years of Maoist war. 

Royal family supporters demand return of king 

Monday event came after last month, thousands of supporters of Nepal’s former royal family held a rally, demanding restoration of Monarchy, AP News reported. rally took place around statue of king Prithvi Narayan Shah, who was founder of Shah Dynasty back in 18th century. According to AP News, supporters of such rallies, make demands for restoration of Nepalese Kingdom, every year on birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan. While 75-year-old King Gyanendra hasn’t been politically active, since year 2006 when he stepped down as king, his support to Monday campaign indicated how former King is inclined to make country a Hindu state.
