Fort Worth officer Aaron Dean gets arrested and charged with murder

A Fort Worth police officer was arrested on October 15 and was charged with the allegation of murder. The officer was responsible for shooting Atatiana Jefferson while she was home on Saturday. The police officer named Aaron Dean was kept in custody and was released on bail three hours later. According to the information provided by the county's inmate website, he was held on a $200,000 bond.
Murder of Atatiana Jefferson
The incident took place on October 12, when one of the neighbours of Jefferson's noticed her door open and her lights on in the middle of the night. The concerned neighbour spontaneously dialed the non-emergency police number for a safety check. The neighbour reported to the global media that he was worried about the girl who happens to live alone with her nephew. The Police arrived at Jefferson’s house around 2.25 a.m. The police officers were inspecting the area when they noticed an unidentified man. The police yelled at him asking him to put his hands up. Within a span of two seconds, the man fired through the window. The man was later identified as Aaron Dean, who shot Atatiana Jefferson in her house.

Outrage among the people
Police later released a statement which said that the officer “perceived a threat” which followed the shooting. The police officers provided medical care after the shooting. But Atatiana Koquice Jefferson was reported dead in her bedroom. The unintentional killing of a black woman by a white police officer broke outrage among Non-Texan people. Lawyer of Jefferson, Lee Merritt, informed international media, the family is relieved that Aaron Dean was arrested and charged with Murder. She further added that he received what he deserved. The family will take the long road to justice, starting from prosecution, conviction and appropriate sentence.

Increase in deaths of black people
Dean, on the other hand, had resigned from his position. The Fort Worth police department also acknowledged the rising anger and disappointment among people. The National Black Police Association revealed that the death of black people by white officers has reached a critical number. In a statement released by the organisation, it emphasised the increase of such events and asked for collective introspection of all the police departments across the country.
