France-UK discussions on fishing dispute needs more work: French Secy Clement Beaune

Brexit Minister David Frost met French Secretary of State for European affairs, Clement Beaune in Paris to discuss disputes over post-Brexit fishing rights.

Brexit Minister of United Kingdom, David Frost met with French Secretary of State for European affairs, Clement Beaune on Thursday in Paris, in an attempt to defuse ongoing tension over post-Brexit fishing rights dispute between two nations. However, French Secretary Beaune later stated that re is still more work left to be done and major differences still persist, Xinhua reported. 

France's Europe Minister Clement Beaune took Twitter and wrote, “Happy to receive David Frost in Paris to relaunch necessary dialogue and ensure implementation of our agreements.”

As per French media,  primary point during Thursday's negotiations was interpretation of post-Brexit fishing deal. France has blamed United Kingdom for making fishing licenses more difficult to get by imposing firm requirements.

In dition, Brexit Minister Frost will travel to Brussels on Friday to speak with European Commission Vice-President Maros Sefcovic to dress challenges of goods tred between UK and Norrn Ireland in aftermath of Brexit, BBC reported.

Clement Beaune h announced on Wednesday, that a full-scale negotiation between European Commission (EC) and United Kingdom over fishing licensing controversy will commence this week. Beaune mention scheduled conversations on Twitter and wrote, "Unity, solidarity and firmness in protecting our agreements, our interests and our fishermen. dialogue between EU and UK is intensifying this week." 

UK-France Fishing Dispute

Previously, France h charged UK for failing to comply with terms of Brexit agreement on fishing licenses and h threatened to impose sanctions starting November 2. As per Associated Press, France h said that if no agreement was reached with United Kingdom on fishing licenses, n British fishing boats would be barred from several French ports, including in Hauts-de-France, Normandy and Brittany. France h also threatened to shut off energy to Channel Islands.

nation also threatened UK by saying that British ships and lorries going between France and UK would be subject to strict customs, security, and or procedures. Yet, on or hand, French President Emmanuel Macron h later ruled out punitive measures by stating, "It is not while we are negotiating that we will impose sanctions," Xinhua reported. 

Furrmore, a representative for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that French ministration has decided not to continue with se threats. "Both sides are keen to have furr discussions," he continued. In dition, London has praised France's choice to postpone imposition of penalties, which were set to commence on Tuesday.
