Freedom Convoy: Ottawa Police arrests 23, issues 1,300 tickets for anti-govt protests

Ottawa police have informed that they have arrested around 23 people and issued more than 1,300 tickets related to the anti-mandate protests in the capital city

municipal police service of Cana has informed that y have arrested around 23 people and issued more than 1,300 tickets related to protests against government and its COVID-19 vaccine mandate in capital city, Ottawa. In a press release, Ottawa Police Service (OPS) stated that arrests have been me in relation to “criminal charges”. It ded that charges include mischief, resisting arrest, breach of probation among or infractions. 

“In dition, police officers have issued more than 1,300 tickets for a variety of infractions, such as excessive ise, use of fireworks and red light violations,” statement ded.

 police informed that an ditional 85 investigations are ongoing. local officials have reportedly requested ditional law enforcement resources in order to deal with ongoing protests that have remained peaceful. federal and provincial authorities have also approved deployment of around 300 Royal Canian Mounted Police (RCMP) and hundreds of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers. 

w, local officials have said that an ditional 1,800 officers are needed to restore order in capital city. Meanwhile, it is to mention that wave of demonstrations across Cana began in January, with tens of thousands of truckers and or protesters converging on Ottawa in a bid to express strong opposition to vaccine mandates. Since n, protests have evolved into an anti-government demonstration, with various groups uniting in opposition to Canian PM Justin Trudeau.

Canian PM deunces truckers’ protest  

On or hand, Trudeau has stated that truckers protesting against COVID-19 vaccine mandate taking place in Ottawa “has to stop”, citing disruptions that demonstration has caused. In a speech to Cana’s parliament on Monday, Trudeau said that individuals are trying to block country’s ecomy, democracy, and citizens’ daily lives. Canian PM furr said that people of Ottawa “don’t deserve to be harassed” in ir own neighbourhoods. 

While upholding right to protest, Canian PM deunced destruction caused by truckers. Trudeau also ted that hundreds of Royal Canian Mounted Police (RCMP) have been mobilised to back Ottawa Police Services. He said, “We’re also working with municipal partners to furr strengn our response, and we’ll continue to be re with whatever resources are needed to get situation under control.”
