German, Lithuanian FMs on Russian vaccine

German foreign minister Heiko Maas on Wednesday said that the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine would undergo the same checks as any other vaccine and that Germany was waiting for those results.

German foreign minister Heiko Maas on Wednesday said that the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine would undergo the same checks as any other vaccine and that Germany was waiting for those results.

Maas also said that deliveries of vaccines "will increase in the coming months", after the European Union had been criticised for the slow start to their vaccination programme.

He made the comments in Berlin at a joint news conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Gabrielus Landsbergis, who said that Lithuania will not use the Sputnik V vaccine.

Landsbergis also said that they were "impatiently" waiting for the decision of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Some countries have suspended the use of while the EU regulators and the World Health Organization investigate whether AstraZeneca's product has the potential to cause blood clots in recipients.
