Germany man smears AfD lawmaker Beatrix von Storch with dog feces, detained

German lawmaker Beatrix von Storch said "Yesterday there was another disgusting attack on me [and] the AfD in Rhineland-Palatinate."

In a shocking incident that highlights intensifying tensions within Germany's political landscape, Beatrix von Storch, a prominent figure within far-right Alternative for Germany party (AfD), fell victim to a repugnant attack involving feces. deputy leer of AfD, a party known for its anti-immigration and anti-green stances, was smeared with excrement during an event in town of Daun, located in southwestern state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

incident occurred on Friday, with von Storch revealing details of attack through a video posted on her social media account on X, previously known as Twitter.

Expressing her dismay, she stated, "Yesterday re was anor disgusting attack on me [and] AfD in Rhineland-Palatinate." She contrasted party's use of arguments with what she characterised as AfD-haters' employment of deplorable tactics like fecal assault. "No matter what despicable means y resort to, we will fight unwaveringly and now more decisively for spiritual and moral renewal of our nation," von Storch affirmed.

Police swiftly intervened and apprehended perpetrator, a 35-year-old man, who is currently under investigation. Von Storch herself disclosed to German news agency dpa that she has lodged a formal complaint regarding incident.

Police accounts of attack indicate that assailant entered event hall where von Storch was present. He initially requested to take a photograph with her before proceeding to carry out distressing act of smearing her with dog feces. law enforcement officers noted that man put up a "brief" resistance during arrest.

Estimates from police suggest that AfD event h approximately 80-85 participants, while a counter-demonstration outside hall attracted around 120 people. Ahe of both events, police h engaged with organisers to ensure protection of participants' right to assemble and exercise freedom of speech, reported DW.

IN 2018, Von Storch h to apologise for falsely blaming a fatal van attack in Münster on Islamist extremists. Beatrix von Storch said on her Facebook page: “I me a mistake with my tweet about Münster and I’m sorry.”

She ded: “Like millions of Germans I assumed that it was an Islamic attack.”

apology came after widespre criticism of her tweet suggesting n-Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open-door refugee policy was to blame after a man drove into a crowd and two people were killed with many more injured.

Beatrix von Storch, aged 52, has held position of AfD's deputy leer since 2015 and has been a member of Bundestag parliament since 2017. Prior to her political career, she was a Member of European Parliament and h a professional background in banking and law. Notably, she is also a descendant of royal House of Oldenburg, which historically ruled a part of present-day northwestern Germany.
