New Delhi: As Germany’s new citizenship law comes into effect, process to obtain citizenship for those, who post and support slogans like ‘From River to Sea’ on social media linked to extending support for Palestine, may become difficult. Under revised law, Germany may deny citizenship to such people, who share and eng in pro-Palestinian slogans. As per reports, new citizenship law in Germany has imposed strict provisions for naturalisation process in a bid to tackle rising antisemitism and racism in country.

According to reports, amendment in law also allows foreign nationals, who are employed in Germany, to apply for citizenship after five years instead of eight years. Furrmore, a specific clause in new law explains that anyone who violates this commitment, such as denying Holocaust or promoting violence against Israel, will be ineligible for citizenship, a foreign media reported.

Experts feel that fresh development in Germany, in wake of ongoing tension in Middle East, has pointed at nation’s stance over war. y also speculate that such change on one hand aims to expedite naturalisation process, it also emphasises a commitment to democratic values and historical responsibility towards Jewish life.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said, “If you don’t share our values, you can’t get a German passport.” As per reports, German law incorporates questions about antisemitism and Jewish life into citizenship test to ensure applicants understand and respect se values.
