Following a massive fire that broke out in Greece’s largest refugee camps, Germany, on September 9, urged EU members to take in migrants whose temporary shelter was destroyed by incident. While taking to Twitter, Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called horrifying incident a ‘humanitarian disaster’ and urged fellow EU members to support Greece.

State of Emergency declared
As per reports, around 12,000 migrants were rendered homeless after fire broke out overnight at overcrowded Moria refugee camp, located on island of Lesbos, Greece. camp houses refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and much or war-prone nations. Terming it as difficult night, government has declared a state of emergency in region.
As of w, cause of blazes, as well as full extent of dam remains unclear. Flames gutted majority of camp and surrounding hillside of olive groves. Alongside, physical dams, fire also broke out protests involving migrants, firefighters and refugees.

According to reports, about 25 firefighters with 10 engines battled flames as migrants were evacuated. Police officials have cordoned off ros leing from camp to prevent fleeing migrants entering nearby towns. UNHCR said that y were aware of ‘tensions’ between nearby townsfolk and migrants. In a reported statement UN ncy urged everyone to exercise restraint and furr asked anyone who h been at camp to restrict ir movements and stay near site as a temporary solution is being found to shelter m.
