Amid concerns of Global warming, fears of a potential coral bleaching disaster on Great barrier reef in coming weeks have escalated. This comes as sea surface temperature has alrey risen two degrees higher above aver in many parts of marine park, international media reported.
Alrey occurred at three sites
Climate Council professor Lesley Hughes said re were reports of bleaching that h alrey occurred in three sites off Cape York, in far rth Queensland, Australia. She furr said that if se conditions and temperatures are maintained, re was a cent per cent risk of bleaching over next few weeks with a potential peak in second week of March.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric ministration have alrey placed great barrier Reef on Alert level 1 for next seven days pointing towards likeliness of significant bleaching. Talking on topic furr, Professor Hughes ded that bleaching could have devastating consequences for Marine Park which is listed in World Herit. According to international media, summers of 2016 and 2017 saw back-to-back mass bleaching, which wiped out half of all shallow-water coral on Great Barrier Reef.
She also told international media that if y get bleaching in rrn parts again this year, certainly re won't have been eugh time for those reefs that were previously bleached to recover.

Meanwhile, a research released on February 17 at annual Ocean Sciences Meeting in San Diego revealed that climate change could destroy all remaining coral reefs by end of century. It was found that increase in ocean temperatures poses a huge threat to corals. According to study, warmer temperatures boost m to release symbiotic algae that bleach m making m vulnerable and puts m at higher risk of death.
