Norman Quentin Cook, known by his stage name Fatboy Slim, the English DJ, paid tribute to the teen environment activist, Greta Thunberg's speech at the 74th United Nations Climate Summit in a live performance at Gateshead show on October 8. The mash-up starts with Thunberg's voice addressing the global leaders about them failing her generation and not taking the required steps for climate emergency. Further, the voice turns over to a synth melody. The extract of the speech where the 16-year-old activist says “right here, right now” is used throughout the video.
The mashup
This mashup which was played on the live show had originally made it to the internet on September 23 after musician David Scott from The Kiffness made it and further shared it with images of icebergs breaking up. This mash-up was also shared by Fatboy Slim on Facebook and Twitter. But he also played the set during his live show. The audience can also be heard saying the speech while the mash-up is being played and then dancing on the beats. This is also not the first modification of Thunberg's speech at UNGA.
Swedish Death Metal
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg’s speech at the United Nations on climate change was turned into a death metal version. The video has garnered more than 3.5 million views on YouTube at the time of this publication. The creator of the video, John Mollusk, said the video and the lyrics were inspired by Greta Thunberg's speech at the UNGA. John reported to a foreign media that the lyrics only contained her speech and nothing else. Pakistan-Canadian author Ali Amjad Rizvi shared the video on Twitter, saying, “Greta Thunberg’s speech as Swedish death metal is the coolest thing you’ll see today.” The 16-year-old climate activist also shared the video on her Twitter and Facebook pages with a funny caption accompanying it.
