The Consulate General of India in Jaffna organized 'Langar' or free communal kitchen for orphan children in Sri Lanka to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 12. The children were also gifted musical instruments to keep the core principle of 'Vand Chakko' which is Punjabi for 'share with others'. Gurpurab celebrations are marked worldwide with leaders remembering the teachings of 10th Sikh Guru of peace and harmony. The President of India also arrived at Sultanpur Lodhi to pay obeisance at the Gurudwara Ber Sahib.

A clip showing people of the Sikh community singing Shabad Kirtan on the Great Wall of China has gone viral. An Indian, Harnidh Kaur who happened to be in China during the time of 550th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev posted a video of a group of people playing the melodious prayer with Harmonium and Tabla sitting on the Great Wall on November 7. The Twitter user further said that Langar, a communal free kitchen of the Sikh community took place at the embassy afterward. Soon after the video was posted on the internet, people around the world expressed their joy.

PM Modi's greetings
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, November 12, extended his greetings on the 550th 'Prakash Parv' of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on Twitter. The PM remembered the Sikh faith founder and said we must do justice to Guru Nanak Dev Ji's teachings for a just, inclusive and harmonious society. President Kovind also took to his twitter and extended his wishes on this auspicious occasion and mentioned that the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji inspires us to build a society based on his teachings of "equality, compassion and social amity." The day is celebrated on the full moon day of the Kartik month as per the Hindu calendar. The day is also marked as Kartik Poornima.
