Supporters of the Hamas Islamic militant group in Gaza protested on Saturday against French President Emmanuel Macron and his crackdown on militant Islam in France.

In the days since the beheading of a teacher in a Paris suburb, French authorities have shut down a mosque and ordered a domestic Islamist militant group be dissolved.

The group, Collective Cheikh Yassine, was named after a slain Hamas leader.

A French Government spokesperson said it was "implicated, linked" to the attack and it was used to promote anti-republican hate speech.

Dozens of Hamas supporters protested against Macron's recent statements on Islam, which they said were insulting to the religion and to the Prophet Muhammad.

A terror investigation is under way into the killing by an 18-year-old Moscow born Chechen refugee, who was later shot dead by police.
