The Hong Kong government on Monday announced it will expand the city's COVID-19 vaccination program.

There will be seven new priority groups, including staff of the catering sector, wet market, supermarket and convenience store workers, delivery workers, public transport personnel, registered construction workers, property management staff, school teachers and staff, frontline tourism workers, staff at beauty parlours and fitness centres.

The change is expected to cover 1.3 million more citizens, bringing the total number of Hong Kong people eligible for vaccination to around 3.7 million.

Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan moved to address fears over vaccination safety after the death of a third recipient of the Chinese-developed Sinovac shot.
