Hong Kong politician's ear reconstructed after attacker bit it off

Surgeons have rebuilt a Hong Kong politician's ear after it was bitten by a knife-wielding man outside a shopping centre on November 3, according to the reports. The victim, District Councillor Andrew Chiu Ka-yin who was recovering on Monday after an overnight operation was among the four people who were seriously injured in a wild attack on Sunday night which took place after the alleged attacker got engaged in a heated discussion over a political issue outside Cityplaza in Tai Koo, according to the media reports.

The perpetrator injured four victims with a knife 

The perpetrator injured four victims with a knife which he kept in his back pocket was beaten by an angry crowd before he was taken into police custody. Two of the victims were said to be in critical condition. Eric Lee, one of Chiu's assistants, said the councillor was operated at midnight for the reconstruction of severed parts of his left ear. He said that the councillor's condition is stable and he is recovering faster. The widespread violence took place on the day where hundreds of protesters took to the streets in an unauthorised citywide demonstration against the government.

The streets of Hong Kong have been vandalized and destructed since the anti-government protests erupted in June, initially over the currently withdrawn extradition bill. Hong Kong's protests began in March, but they kicked off in earnest in June. They were sparked by widespread opposition to a controversial extradition bill that would have allowed extradition to China, but have since expanded to demands for full democracy and police accountability. Hong Kong executive leader Carrie Lam announced the withdrawal of the extradition bill after month-long protests which have divided the city and plunged its economy to great extent.
