India, Australia to continue close cooperation for 'rules-based Indo-Pacific region': MEA

India, Australia resolved to continue close cooperation for mutual well-being and towards advancing their shared objective of an open, free Indo-Pacific region.

Following a bilateral meeting between PM Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said that India and Australia resolved to continue close cooperation for mutual well-being and towards vancing ir shared objective of an open, free, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. According to MEA's statement, two leers reviewed progress achieved since Leers’ Virtual Summit in June 2020 under Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. y also discussed a bro range of issues of bilateral, regional and global importance. 

MEA statement re, “ Prime Ministers reviewed progress achieved since Leers' Virtual Summit in June 2020 under Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and resolved to continue close cooperation for mutual well-being and towards vancing ir shared objective of an open, free, prosperous and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.”

It ded, “During meeting, Prime Ministers discussed a bro range of issues of bilateral, regional and global importance. y ted with satisfaction regular high-level engments between two countries, including recently held first India-Australia Foreign and Defence Ministers’ 2+2 Dialogue.”

India-Aus to work closer to overcome post-pandemic challenges 

Furr, as per press te, Morrison and PM Modi also underlined need for international community to dress issues of climate change on an urgent basis. PM highlighted need for a broer dialogue on environmental protection. MEA informed that two leers even discussed possibilities of providing clean techlogies.

“ Prime Ministers agreed that as two vibrant democracies in region, two countries needed to work closer toger to overcome challenges in post-pandemic world, inter alia to enhance supply chain resilience,” MEA said. 

PM Modi and his Australian counterpart lauded immense contribution of Indian diaspora towards Australia’s ecomy and society. Both dignitaries discussed ways to enhance “people to people ties”. PM Modi “renewed his invitation to Prime Minister Morrison to visit India,” MEA said. 

statement comes after PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with Morrison on sidelines of QU Leers’ Summit. meeting between two was first meeting in post-pandemic period. It is worth mentioning that last bilateral meeting between Morrison and PM Modi was Leers' Virtual Summit held in June 2020, when Strategic Partnership between India and Australia was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
