Over 476 million indigeus peoples live across 90 countries worldwide, accounting for 6.2 percent of global population. On August 9, United Nations (UN) celebrates International Day of World's Indigeus People 2021 to promote and protect rights of world’s Indigeus population. “ Indigeus peoples are holders of a vast diversity of unique cultures, traditions, langus, and kwledge systems. y have a special relationship with ir lands and hold diverse concepts of development based on ir own world views and priorities,” UN explains in a statement.

History of International Day of World's Indigeus Peoples

re are between 370 and 500 million Indigeus Peoples worldwide, in over 90 countries but make up just 5 percent of global population. Commission on Human Rights adopted a resolution for indigeus communities’ inclusion, participation, and approval in a system with social and ecomic benefits for all. Indigeus peoples are often driven from ir lands, ir cultures and langus denigrated, and ir people are marginalized from political and ecomic activities. refore, permanent UN Forum presented by Ecomic and Social Council in April 2000 adopted a resolution to consider issues and challenges surrounding culture, education, ecomic and social development, human rights, environment, and health. 

Significance 

United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigeus Peoples and advisory bodies such as Permanent Forum on Indigeus Issues ensure that y address issues of Indigeus communities and respond to inequalities through reconciliation efforts, legislative reforms, and constitutional reforms. UN ensures by observing day people and governments respect Indigeus Peoples' rights and uphold ir dignity and freedom.

Indigeus People should be entitled to genuine participation and partnership that fosters equal opportunities and respects rights, dignity, and freedom.
