Founded in 1999 by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh after persistent calls since the 1960s for the creation of an equivalent to International Women's Day because the contributions made by men also deserve a day of recognition in their own right and to celebrate equality.

Significance of International Men's Day

The six pillars of the objective to celebrate the male gender includes the promotion of positive male role models apart from celebrities who are also living honest lives and their contributions. It is also essential for men to focus on their mental health and wellbeing in all aspects of life, social, emotional, physical and spiritual. On November 19, the discrimination against men is also highlighted especially in the areas of social services, attitudes, expectations, and law while improving gender relations and equality.
