Jerusalem: Iran has launched dozens of ballistic missiles at Israel, escalating the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Hezbollah, and Hamas, both backed by Iran.

Iran Attack Israel

Although there were no immediate reports of casualties, Israel instructed its residents to seek shelter as air raid sirens blared throughout the country. Explosions were reported in Tel Aviv and near Jerusalem, but it remained unclear whether these were due to missiles hitting or being intercepted.

Both Israel and the U.S. have warned of severe repercussions if Iran were to attack Israel.

Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, an Israeli army spokesman, confirmed that Israel's air defence systems are successfully detecting threats.

In a statement aired on state television, Iran took responsibility for the missile launch, referencing recent Israeli airstrikes that killed key figures in Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran described the missile attack as just a “first wave,” without providing further details.

The missile attack happened just after Israel announced it had begun limited ground operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, which had escalated following a series of airstrikes and retaliatory rocket fire from Hezbollah into Israel.

A senior White House official warned of "severe consequences" if Iran continued its missile attacks. The U.S. has deployed ships and aircraft to the region to support Israel.

The Israeli military earlier warned several southern Lebanese communities near the border to leave their homes, shortly after starting what it called a limited ground operation against Hezbollah targets.

Hezbollah's acting leader, Naim Kassem, promised the group will fight on following the death of its long-time chief, Hassan Nasrallah, and several of the group's top commanders, who have been assassinated in recent days. Kassem said the group's fighters are ready and the slain commanders have already been replaced.
