Iran summons Turkish envoy over Prez Erdogan's poem which allegedly flared ‘separatism’

Turkish president recited a 19th century Azeri-Iranian poem calling the Iran provinces of Azerbaijan part of the Republic of Azerbaijan at Azeri military parade

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Turkey’s ambassor over Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s controversial remarks me during his visit to Azerbaijan, which according to Iranian regime, flared ‘separatism’ among Azeri communities. In his visit to Azeri capital Baku, where he participated in Azerbaijan’s victory military pare, Turkish president recited a19th century Azeri-Iranian poem calling Iranian provinces of Azerbaijan part of Republic of Azerbaijan. Condemning Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recitation as “interventionist” and provocative, Iran summoned Turkish envoy for an immediate explanation for ir President’s comments. 

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohamm Jav Zarif responded to controversial poem, saying, that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “wrongly” hurled false claims, local Tehran Times reported. chief Iranian diplomat also published a tweet, condemning Turkish president as he wrote, “Pres. Erdogan was t informed that what he ill-recited in Baku refers to forcible separation of areas rth of Aras from Iranian morland. Didn't he realize that he was undermining sovereignty of Republic of Azerbaijan?” He ded, “ one can talk about our beloved Azerbaijan,” in a warning tone. In a separate Persian tweet, Iranian minister said, “y didn’t tell Erdogan that poem that he wrongly recited in Baku is related to forcible separation of areas rth of Aras from Iranian morland.”

Aras ‘river of separation’

Zarif was referring to strategic Kura-Aras River Basin Transboundary river systems that separated riparian nations Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran with Azerbaijan and Turkey. key waterbody is a border between Republic of Azerbaijan of two ethnic-Azeri Turk majority of Iranian provinces, which, Iranian Azerbaijan civilians called ‘river of separation’ from Republic of Azerbaijan. In military pare where 3,000 Azeri troops marched, Azeri fighter jets held flyovers, Turkish commando brige was also seen participating and Turkish drones put a military display. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for attending pare, after which, Turkish President delivered controversial speech.
