Iraq, Saudi reopen Arar border crossing after 30 years indicating closer trade ties
The development comes as Iraq and Saudi aim to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation to achieve national interests in the field of trade and commerce.

On vember 17, Iraq and Saudi Arabia opened Arar border crossing for first time in 30 years for tre to achieve development and stability, Iraqi border ports commission said in a statement, accessed by Associated Press. development comes as two nations aim to strengn bilateral relations and cooperation to achieve national interests in field of tre and commerce. crossing has remained closed since 1991 following Iraq and Saudi Arabia’s deterioration of relations after Sdam's invasion of Kuwait.
In 1990s Iraq closed down its border after Riyh cut all ties following Kuwait’s invasion. diplomatic ties between two countries exacerbated despite successive governments taking over. However, following high profile meetings in 2015, Riyh reopened embassy in Baghd, and by 2017, a bilateral coordination council was established to furr mend relations between two nations. latest reopening of Arar crossing is a milestone in Iraq-Saudi ecomic cooperation, as officials including Iraq's interior minister and he of its border commission opened borders in a historic move to let line of cargo trucks pass through.

Several joint investments signed
Located south of Iraqi town of An-Nukhaib in western Anbar province, which predominantly houses Sunni population of Anbar, border reopening is expected to ease ecomic crisis for Iraq due to fluidity of tre activity. Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Khimi and Saudi’s crown prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud signed several joint investment agreements covering energy and health sectors, and Arar’s reopening is a major breakthrough in ties between Riyh and Baghd.
According to Iraq's state news ncy, Saudi Ambassor to Iraq, Abdul Aziz Al Shammari, and his Iraqi counterpart, Qahtan Al Janabi, inspected crossing located 70 kilometers from Iraqi border earlier in October as y planned to resume commercial activities between two nations. Farhan Al Dulaimi, a member of Anbar provincial council in Iraq told state press that Saudi Arabia completed 80 percent revation work on border, meanwhile, undersecretary of Saudi Customs Authority, Majid Al Marzam informed that crossing was equipped with vanced techlogy to furr movement of tre between Iraq and Saudi.
