Iraq: Two Katyusha rockets hit Baghdad's Green Zone, no casualties reported so far

In the latest development, two Katyusha rockets were fired at the heavily fortified Green Zone in Central Baghdad on Wednesday, international media reported.

In  latest development, two Katyusha rockets were fired at heavily fortified Green Zone in Central Baghd on Wednesday, sources from Iraqi Interior Ministry informed international media. armed green zone was attacked before midnight and two rockets landed in area where some of  Iraqi government's main offices and US embassy are situated, international media reported.

As per reports, re were immediate reports about casualties, however, sirens were heard in zone. This comes at time when Iraqi officials are gearing up for a round of strategic dialogue with US side on Thursday, June 11 to review relations between Baghd and Washington. officials are also scheduled to discuss  future of US forces in Iraq.

two countries are witnessing tension since January 3 when a US drone struck a convoy at Baghd airport, that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, former commander of Quds Force for Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy chief of Iraq's paramilitary Hashd Shaabi forces.

In wake of heightened tension,  Iraqi parliament passed a resolution requiring government to end presence of foreign forces in country on January 5. So far over 5,000 US troops have been deployed in Iraq to support Iraqi forces in battles against Islamic State militants. se troops also provide training to Iraqi forces and give m strategic vice.
