Israel says it has foiled big cyber attack by foreign state-backed hacker ‘Lazarus’

Israel's Ministry of Defense said that it has foiled big cyber-attack by an international group, backed by a foreign state, against its security industries.

Israel said on August 12 that it has foiled big cyber-attack by an international group, backed by a foreign state, against its security industries. Israel’s Ministry of Defense said that members of international cyber group "Lazarus" used various hacking techniques, including social engineering and impersonation, but was thwarted by Director of Security for Defense Establishment in cooperation with ditional security institutions.

While ministry didn’t name country, reports suggest that hackers’ group is based in rth Korea. Israel said that cybercriminals built fake profiles on LinkedIn, a social network primarily used for job searches in high-tech sector, and impersonated manrs, CEOs and leing officials in HR departments, as well as representatives of international companies.

y allegedly contacted employees of leing defence industries in Israel, with aim of developing discussions and tempting m with various job opportunities. ministry said in a statement that attackers attempted to compromise computers of se employees, to infiltrate ir networks and gar sensitive security information in process of sending job offers.

'Identified on real-time'

ministry said that cyber-attacks were identified in real-time and thwarted by Tech Unit under Director of Security for Defense Establishment, in Ministry of Defense as well as cyber defence systems employed by defence industries. Directorate of Security has launched an investigation and operational activity toger with defence industries and or security bodies, following this attempted breach.

“ Director of Security for Defense Establishment will continue its work in thwarting attempts to breach networks of Israeli defence industries, and any attempts to harm techlogical capabilities and assets of State of Israel,” said department.
