For many Israelis and Palestinians, 2020 was an especially bitter year. Typically used to witnessing fighting between the two peoples, this year they also had to contend with the fight against the coronavirus, which struck both sides.

Jerusalem resident Shlomo Kalantarov said "It's not a secret this was a tough year."

Kalantarov hoped 2021 will be a peaceful year and that all families "be united together."

Another Jerusalem resident, Hanni Kerry, said 2020 was a "good year," and "I'm healthy and everything is good."

Kerry said he's expecting the first six months of 2021 to be the same as 2020, adding vaccinations will solve "80% of the problems."

Israel, a country of 9 million people, began its vaccination drive last week and according to the health ministry vaccinated about 950,000 people.
