Italy becomes 2nd country to pass China Coronavirus cases

Italy has become the second country to overtake China in total coronavirus infections, recording 86,498 on Friday.

It also recorded its single biggest leap in coronavirus deaths, with 969 more victims.

Italian health officials said they were transferring some patients from Lombardy, which has the highest rate of infections in the country, to intensive care units in other regions to ease the burden on the hospital system.

Italy now has the most virus-related deaths in the world and on Friday reported 9,134.
